okay folks this idea was floated in the past and went no-where( as most plans do ).
so in order to make it easier and to guage interest im going to suggest the following.
1) we attend a organised lan( ie. like the recent I26) in a convenient location to most( we can work out which/where if enough want to). if we go we can go as a group or a clan so we dont have to bf2 all the 1-3 days involved .
2) we attend a local regular lan( ie their is a lan group that i know runs one weekend a month near me, approx 10 mins away). we would have to discuss this with who ever we decide to use to make sure that they can meet our requrements and that they wont object f all of us turn up .( not likely with these things as rl will get in the way).
3) we host our own lan/ meet up. this could be a pure gaming event or social event. ( ie. we could bring wives /kids/ significant others/ parents-NO LLaMAS though ). it could be at some ones home or at a local venue depending on size of crowd turning up.
okay these are the basic ideas and here are some of the problems I foresee.
we are a multinational clan( which I love, for me it adds to the fun), so tp members from abroad will have to fly /travel a long way and that means to expensive to bring kit! I am assuming that we are talking of doing it in the uk as most of us live here, (that includes scotland/wales/ireland/etc). Hell we may decide we want and can go to the USA to do it . so if we do it in the uk we ought to be able to scrape some pc gear together for those coming from outside the uk.( i can get a couple of pcs capable of running bf2 okay as spares- dont expect bleeding edge tech though).
we will want a net connection at any home/local lan to either host or play on a net sever for those who can not attend. Also in my experiance the mere thought of moving your pc can often lead to having to sort hardware problems out. We would all have to prep our machines prior to any lan as ive wasted hours configuring machines at a lan to get them running properly.( one stupid bugger who virused the bloody network ).
we have some younger members on in the clan so we need to agree rules of conduct if they attend. (ie. swearing mmust be okay as it already happens so that should be okay in moderation ). We would have to think about drinking/ smoking etc.
organising this and making it actualy happen if enough people want to will require plenty of notice. More time will probably be required to set up a big session due to everyone having different work/social responsibilities.
so please think about what you want and start talking about it here. It might start out with only a few but that can grow. I dont know if many of you have had a lan session but it is a different class of gaming experiance. Its like going from single player to multiplayer gaming _________________ ]
Well I can say that the Foundation that I'm chairman of are organizing a LAN-event in January/february. This afternoon we are going to take a look at the location But it's in The Netherlands though.
Anyway I like to take a vacation to the UK and bring my wive and kid with me to a LAN over there. But if I do that I need to know it months in advance to save some money for it. _________________ http://www.gameforceone.nl
i am diffently up for this iv been thinking about it ever since we started this clan, me and stu wanted to find a group of fun guys to play our games with and thanks to you guys it happened and i do thank all of you for your comitment coz without it we would be nothing.
i think an event where the wifes etc can come to as im sure a few bottles of wine will keep them happy i know it will for Shona and Sarah and if it works out good which im sure it will maybe make it a regular thing once a year?? thats if TP dont collapes that is but im sure it wont i plan to do this for a long time as yet take it into other games etc.
as for traveling i dont mind as im sure me and stu will share a car and staying in a hotel for a weekend will please the missis .
if we decide to go for a lan event im sure the women will be happy going to the shops for the day i know mine will be.
We got to do something even if it is just a few of us coz the guys that dont come will here how good it was and will want to come next time. _________________
