New SystemHmm, just had a look at a new system, running intel core duo 6600 series processor, with 1GB DDR2RAM and a 7950 graphics card.
Set up running FSX deluxe, the thing ran with every setting maxed out including Autogen scenery up to max, with a still healthy 6 frames a second.
That's without any overclocking to the processor or graphics card!
This is the best bit, the processors can be overclocked by at least 1GHZ without any problems, beating FX57 AMD chips easily.
I reckon with a bit of overclocking this system would run Flight sim at around 15 frames a second without problems, with every setting maxed out.
I am very tempted to switch!

upgraded mine approx 2 month ago to a similar spec.
(6600 cpu, 1900xt graphics card, 2gig ram-cheap stuff a mate sold me for £50,250hd and a new psu 550w). works a treat bf2 at 2aa 1600x1200,oblivion at same resoloution.
go for it but i would not pay for £150+ for the motherboards until the new chipsets come out (if they do finaly release the ati one that is).

if your upgrading just for fsx then best wait till dx10 arrives and they update it with the dx10 patch

bit of both mate, been hearing good things about the new core duo's, and I am AMD through and through -I donnut hate intel almost as much as microshite, however have to eat my hat on this one, they are very good indeed.
It is aboutr this time i take a big hit and future proof for the next two years, last few times have been upgrades of MOBO and processor only, reusing other kit.

nvidias dx10 card is out 2nd week november, ati is sometime in january(i think). dx10 will be out with vista( november for the corperations, next year for joe public. if your going for dx10 you would be better off waiting till 1st quater next year as early cards will be monsters on power consuption and are rumoured to have some broken functionality(hdcp notably).
dx 10 is vista only and there are no games yet.(they will start arriving next year)
