so if someone can help me get it back on track I can play BATTLEFIELD 2142 again but don't suggest anything that involves erasing the D Drive as i have alot of valueble data please help if you have a solution or advice on offer Crying or Very sad

The fact that you cant open the drive means that there is no power getting to it, this could be either the connection to the drive has managed to come loose or break, or the drive it self has given up the ghost.

I advise you to go out and buy a new disc drive they are not that expensive.

Firstly turn off you computer (read this first tho)

open the base unit up and check the connections to the Drive unplug the drive and put the SAME plugs back in to the back of it then try it again if it does not work contact me tonight on TS and ill talk to you though a few more things.

i had this problem, it's caused by a loose wire or a wire being hit that lead's into the drive, well ecleast that's what happneed to mine but i had the exact same prob

yep, shut down, and check power connector has not loosened, PC's often suffer from an effect known as "heat creep" where connectors and items such as microchips in sockects like some older BIOS chips work their way out due to expansion/contraction of materials due to heating up/cooling down.

If all looks OK then your drive is knackered, time for the last rites and a visit to the dustbin.

Also if u suffer from computer violence like some and take it out on their PC it might of knocked it around and buggered it up Very Happy ,not like youd do that lol.
